Employing Best Practices

The process called hydraulic fracturing, or “fracing,” involves pumping water mixed with sand and a minimal amount of chemicals into the well at a very high pressure to fracture the formation and increase the flow of natural gas to the wellbore.

Once the fracturing process is complete, fluids that flow back out of the well (referred to as produced fluid) are captured and stored in tanks to be recycled in other well operations or, if necessary, disposed of. Seneca Resources’ goal is to recycle 100% of its produced fluid.

We remain committed to employing industry best practices in our operations and being a good steward of the environment. Evidence of this commitment is our water usage policies as well as produced fluid recycling program. Seneca Resources’ ability to reuse recycled fluids in new well completions has significantly reduced the amount of freshwater consumption. In 2021, Highland Field Services recycled over 90% of Seneca Resources’ produced fluids, or 9.45 million barrels, plus an additional 1.65 million barrels of fluids that were generated by and received from third-party operators. When you take into account the amount of produced fluids that Highland Field Services recycled for third parties, Seneca Resources was a net recycler for the year.
