Natural Gas Vehicles
Natural gas can reduce fuel costs significantly versus diesel- or gasoline-powered vehicles, extending engine life and reducing the frequency of oil changes. Since natural gas is lighter than air, a leak will not pool on the ground like gasoline. Plus, compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinders are much stronger than gasoline tanks.
Another benefit is that natural gas reduces emissions compared to gasoline because it produces 75% less CO, 50% less NOX and 25% less CO2 once consumed. Natural gas also produces 50% less engine noise than a diesel engine.
Natural gas reserves are expected to last for more than 100 years. Fortunately, natural gas is also a domestic source of energy—more than 90% of the U.S. supply is produced in North America.
Incentives for natural gas vehicles
National Fuel helps customers reduce the cost of installing natural gas vehicle (NGV) refueling stations and/or purchasing new vehicles to improve payback.
Typical incentives per customer are expected to be between $10,000 and $200,000, depending on the type and number of NGVs purchased.
